Jundushan Ski Resort operates at a slower relaxed pace. People actually line up single file for the lifts. A real blessing if you’ve just purchased a new pair of skis and don’t want them trampled upon. Short lines on the easy hills make this a good place for beginners who will especially appreciate the conveyor belt lift if it’s your first time on skis.
The top of the advanced hill has about 50 meters of moguls served by a disc lift. The fast turn-around time makes this a great place to perfect your mogul technique. The next stretch of hill is long and super steep. It reduces all but the most advanced skiers to big S curves. The big hits against JunDuShan are the lack of a good intermediate run and the southern exposure. The snow will melt on a warm day but on cold days the extra warmth is actually a plus.
Prices: Reviewer paid 180RMB/4 hours on the weekend. Night skiing is 100RMB from 5pm till 10pm. Park entry is included in the ticket price.
Equipment: Wide range of equipment in excellent condition. I was fitted out with an almost new pair of Head boots and skis with Tyrolia bindings. No lines for equipment during reviewer’s visit.
Lodge: There is a cafeteria style Chinese restaurant and a nicely laid out western restaurant which offered a good range of drinks but only sandwiches for food. Neither have outdoor seating but a lodge at the top of the advanced hill does. Hot chocolate can be found at all locations. Don’t miss the red bean fish shaped pastries from the vendor at the gate.
Five easy hills of varying difficulty served by 5 disc lifts, 2 chair lifts and a conveyor belt lift. Even at peak hours all had reasonable waits. Snowboarders have 3 rails but they were almost buried in snow.
One advanced hill with a 2 person chair lift and a disc lift at the top. The lift is shared with the easy hill but I never waited more than 5 minutes.
Option A) Take subway line 2 to JiShiuTan. From exit A, walk east to the DeShengMen bus station and take express bus 919 to ChangPing then hire a driver or taxi to the resort for around 40RMB. The bus takes 50 minutes in good traffic.
Option B) Take subway line 13 to LongZi, exit and cross the road. Hire a driver for around 80 RMB. Do NOT take noisy, crowded and slow bus 21 which takes an hour long circuitous route and still leaves you a 20RMB ride shy of the resort.
Getting back: The last 919 bus leaves from dongGuan at 19:40. If you’re heading to LongZi, factor in the drive time so you don’t miss the last train.
Night skiing: The park is open till 10:00 pm with lights around the bunny hill area but none on the advanced slope. The brochure advertises a free dinner included with the ticket.
The owners should: Add a solid intermediate slope. Add some outdoor seating for the restaurants to watch the activity on the slopes.
