Day 1. Visit Great Wall, Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City
We will pick you up at your hotel and guide you to the Great Wall(Badaling section). There you may take a cable car to the highest point to appreciate a wonderful bird-view of the scenery at your expense. After lunch, you will be arranged to visit the largest square in the world-Tiananmen Square, and the famous Forbidden City, to experience the modern and the ancient culture of China. Then, we will drive you back to your hotel.
The Forbidden City was home to 24 emperors of the Ming and Qing Dynasties so it is the essence of the ancient architecture and full of treasures. Built from the fourth year of Emperor Yongle of the Ming Dynasty (1406) to 1420,the Forbidden City was well-preserved. In 1961 the Palace Museum was listed as one of the important historical monuments under the special preservation by the Chinese central government and in 1987, it was nominated as the world cultural heritage by the UNESCO.It has four gates in four directions: the Meridian Gatethe in the souh , the Divine Prowess Gate in the north , the Donghua Gate in the east and the Xihua Gate in the west. Each gate has its own function.
Tiananmen Square covers an area of 440, 000 square meters, making it the biggest square located in the center of a city in the world. It can hold about one million people for public celebration or gatherings. In the early morning every day ,there are many tourists watching the national flag raising ceremony . Besides you can visit the National Museum of China and go to the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong in which one will see the body of the great Chinese leader. There are five Golden Water Bridges well sculptured of white marble between the square and the imperial palace .The midmost 8.55 meters wide Imperial Bridge, engraved with dragon, was for the exclusive use of the ancient emperors. The two 5.78-meter-wide bridges ,called the Royals' Bridges, were used by the royal family .The left two bridges were constructed forthe civil military officials above the third rank. The Tiananmen Square is so famous that almost everyone who comes China will visit it.
Badaling Great Wall
